Happy New Year 2008!

Posted on Dec. 31, 2007 by Brenda Stratton

As the holidays wind down and 2007 draws to a close, I find myself ready to start my next crochet project. Throughout the year, I’ve been collecting scrap yarns left over from other crochet projects to use in making hats, scarves, squares for scrap afghans and other items destined for charitable organizations.

If you’re wondering why I have been doing this, there are actually several reasons. I travel frequently, and I like to keep small projects ready so I can toss them in a suitcase in a hurry and not have to worry that they will take up much room. Small, scrap projects are just right for this purpose. It also gives me a great deal of satisfaction, in being able to give of my time and whatever crochet talents I may possess, to help supply warm hats, mittens, scarves and blankets to those who need them.

Also, over the past year, the DRG staff and I have been working on a book titled Mad About Scraps which has fueled my already-existing passion for scrap projects. I really enjoyed putting this book together, and at 304 pages, it contains enough projects to keep me busy for a very long time. There are more than 125 scrap projects to crochet! So, if you love to make scrap projects, you’re sure to find something that strikes your crochet fancy.
